The following are some
suggestions to assist you in the
“40 Days Closer to Jesus Christ” program
1. Generate the Spirit daily:
By humble, fervent, vocal prayer.
Pray for a burning spirit of testimony, love, and charity.
Meditate about yourself and your family.
Have family prayer.
Ponder the thought and scripture for the day.
2. As you organize your day, include the
following:
Complete scripture reading assignment.
Wise use of your time.
Family prayer.
Commit to say only positive and uplifting statements about others.
Serve someone daily.
Physical exercise.
3. Attend the temple or prepare to obtain a temple recommend.
4. Try to obey all the commandments.
5. Do quality visiting teaching. 100% each month.
6. Hold Family Home Evening.
7. Go the second mile in your Church calling.
8. Plan a date with your spouse once a week.
9. Attend all church meetings.
Each woman is a daughter of God. She uses her agency to build her testimony and the testimonies of her family and others by being a thoughtful disciple, a scriptorian, and a prayful, spiritual witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A first reading on the Book of Mormon with a sincere heart leads the reader to the first discovery — a testimony from Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost of it’s truthfulness.
A periodic re-reading of the Book of Mormon renews the sweet testimony of its truthfulness and brings the second discovery — a growing awareness of the will of Jesus Christ.
Starting a daily reading of the Book of Mormon reveals the third discovery—an increased defense against temptation. President Benson observed that Book of Mormon readers have a special defense against the wiles of the devil.
A ten-minute daily reading of the Book of Mormon pours more of the healing spirit of Christ into a day than ten minutes in any other book — the fourth discovery. It provides a daily reader with the power to return healing responses to negative events.
The person who plugs into the Book of Mormon for ten minutes every day discovers increasing strength to overcome weakness—the fifth discovery. The added strength, referred to in the Book of Mormon as grace, is a gift granted personally by Jesus Christ to Book of Mormon readers striving to make changes in their lives.
That person who persists in plugging into the book of Mormon for ten minutes every day discovers, growing within himself or herself, the sixth discovery—a passion to follow Jesus Christ and keep His every commandment—even as a little child. This passion inspires confidence in following every direction of His living prophets and priesthood leaders.
That soul who feasts ten minutes every day upon the Book of Mormon discovers with time, growing within himself or herself, the seventh discovery —–the same living power of convincing by the spirit that the Book of Mormon prophets themselves enjoyed. This loving power of convincing is the only tool we have to reach through the hardness and bitterness and bring souls to Jesus Christ; into fellowship with His saints and to the fruit of the tree of life—–the ordinances of His holy temple.
RECORD YOUR DISCOVERIES, THERE ARE MANY MORE TO FIND.
